Come celebrate the beginning of The Big Read in Kodiak, September 28, 7 pm, at the Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium. The Big Read is a program to introduce classic literature in communities.
The Big Read Kodiak is focused on the works of Edgar Allan Poe. There will be many events from September - June exploring Poe's work.
Saturday's Kick Off (starting) Event features Michael Oakes, who will present Poe's life and work. Kodiak's Isle Bells (hand bell choir) will provide live music. There will be FREE (!!) giveaways of books and graphic novels if you attend.
Tickets are $10 per person or $25 for a family. You can buy tickets at the Baranov Museum.
Are you on Facebook? Look at The Big Read Kodiak Facebook page for updates, contests, and chances to win tickets and book prizes. Go to our links page above to connect to the Facebook page.
Class Trip to the Book Swap
Sunday, 3-5 pm, Kodiak Island Brewery
Bring your old books to donate (give) to the Kodiak Public Library Association. Buy used books at cheap prices. This all supports our new Kodiak Library! You can buy a bag there, or you can bring your own bag to fill up with new (to you) books.
This is a daytime, community, family- oriented event. Just because it is at the Brewery does not mean you have to drink! There are many cultural differences around drinking. Remember that Kodiak is very casual, and we are lucky the Brewery (next to McDonald's) offers up its big space for this book sale.
I will be there at 3 pm on Sunday to meet any of you who want to go to the book swap. If you need a ride, please email me or talk to me in class.
