If you go to Near Island to the trail near Trident Basin, you will see shooting stars (and other flowers). This is the trail that we hiked as a class back in April.
If you go to Woodland Drive and go all the way to the end, there is a parking place. Then walk through the chain fence, follow the trail, and you will come out on a "bluff" (cliffs above the beach) at Spruce Cape. The shooting stars are blooming there, too.
Check both of these trails all summer for different flowers such as lupin, geranium, and iris.
If you want to hike together, we can also do that!
Drive over the bridge to Near Island. Follow Trident Way almost to the end of the road. On the right side of the road, there is a parking area. The trail starts right by the parking area. (If you go all the way to the end of the road, you'll be down where the float planes are. That is too far!) The trail takes you through the woods and then to the beach. You can walk all the way around the end of the island
Woodland Drive ends about where that green arrow is. You can park your car there.
There is a trail that goes through two fences--it is open to the public. Part of the trail is in the trees and then it opens up to the cliffs and beach at the end.
At the end of the trail is another fence, and then it is private, military property. (Where the dark brown ends on the map.)
